Music Education

The student majoring in Music Education will develop methodologies, concepts, skills and in the next areas: music, including composition and music theory, improvisation, arranging, musicianship, orchestration, history, and conducting and the relationship of music to other fields of knowledge.

The student have to show these competencies through an ample experience. Also the student will work under a college supervisor, and will be credited against the standards for teaching licensing as official by the Massachusetts State Department of Education.

Careers in Music Education:

Elementary/Primary School Music Teacher

Generally they work depending on the school and the ages and grades that they will teach, and usually work in private, parochial schools or public.

Secondary School Music Teacher

Secondary school music teachers usually teach in grades 7th through 12th, and they work in private, parochial schools or public. Secondary school music teachers may teach specifically on one instrument, or several.

Secondary school music teachers may be responsible for orchestra, choir, or leading a school band, and for putting on school competitions and concerts.

College/Conservatory/University Music Educator

Normally, they may be hired for a variety of different levels. Generally they are received in the school as a general music educator to teach areas of music history, music arranging, music theory, or instrumental performance or vocal and also are brought to conduct choruses or orchestras.

Private Instructor

A private instructor, it works giving private class to the students. Normally a private instructor can fix his own honoraria and can only work outside an office or home, and generally they can give lessons of 45 minutes to 1 hour and to program its lessons per week once.

Choir Director
