Time Signatures
A Time Signature mark how many beats there are in each bar and which note is to be used as a beat. Generally most time signatures comprise 2 numbers, 1 above the other and generally are written in the manner of a fraction (3/4).

This means there is four quarter notes per measure.
Generally the bottom number can be 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, etc.

For example:
3/4 is 3 quarter notes per measure.
5/2 is 5 half notes per measure.
