Tenor


It's the highest male vocal range. It's lower than the alto but higher than the bass. The tenor was used mainly to play the function of a hero in an opera. Into the 13th to 16th century, the tenor voice was used mainly for plainsongs.

Range:
It's from the second B below middle C to the G above.

Word Origin
It had origin of the Latin word tenere, meaning ‘to hold’. This is because into the time of polyphony, tenors "held" the melody.
