Cornet
How to play: Like the trumpet, the cornet has valves & is generally pitched in B flat. In order to play it the musician blows into the mouthpiece, presses the finger buttons too known with valves & moves the tuning slide.

First Known Cornets: One assumes that it had origin in 1820 and its first manufacturer was Jean Asté (Halary).
The early cornet had a conical-shaped tube, 3 valves & a detachable shank. Actually, the cornet has valve casings & a Sheperd's Crook which is largely based on the design of Antoine Courtois.
Types: It was used by composers in the past before the trumpet came. Cornets are generallt pitched in B flat but there are also cornets pitched in a different key such as the E flat soprano cornet.
