How to play: The flutist or musician, when blows air into the edge of the instrument, change the pitch of the sound by closing the holes using fingers.

Family: Woodwind

First Known Flutes: One assume that it was discovered in Slovenia by Archaelogists. The first ancient flute made from the bones of a cave bear dating back around 50,000 years ago.

Types: There are many types of flutes that are played differently.

Some of these are:

• Side blown flutes: Bansuri, Piccolo, Fife.
• End-blown flutes: Tonette, Quena, Recorder, Shakuhachi, Kaval, Ney.
• Commonly known flutes: Alto Flute, Piccolo, Bass Flute, Concert Flute and Contrabass Flute.
• Less known flutes: Soprano, Treble Flute, Sub-bass and Octobass Flute.
