The music minor is designed for students interested in studying music as either an academic discipline or a practical set of skills. Traditionally, students of music at higher institutions proceed along one of two tracks: musicology (the study of the history and theory of music) or music performance (“studio”) skills in composition, instrumental music or voice. The rationale for the proposed required courses for this minor is that knowledge of both the history of art music and basic theory is necessary for a student in either track.
