Here is a quick checklist of what to remember, how to do it & what to do , thus helping you get off to a good start. Is very recommendable for the musicians.

Determine your Budget: You must consider how much you can spend, be realistic & try to stay on budget.

Choose Your Instrument: You must to choose one instrument, wished for you. Ask yourself if that particular instrument is the one you think you will stick with. Better yet, make a list of your top 3 instruments, write the pros & cons of each as it relates to you. Finally, choose one & commit to learning that instrument.

Enroll in Music Lessons: Ask yourself if you wish to study in a public school or with a private professor.

Do you wish to take lessons offline or online? The answer to this will rely on your personality.

Purchase Needed Books: You can buy some books of music that are necessary for you. Also, you can buy a book that they recommended to you.
