How to play: The flutist or musician, when blows air into the edge of the instrument, change the pitch of the sound by closing the holes using fingers.
Types There are many types of flutes that are played differently.

Some of these are:

• Side blown flutes: Bansuri, Piccolo, Fife.
• End-blown flutes: Tonette, Quena, Recorder, Shakuhachi, Kaval, Ney.
• Commonly known flutes: Alto Flute, Piccolo, Bass Flute, Concert Flute and Contrabass Flute.
• Less known flutes: Soprano, Treble Flute, Sub-bass and Octobass Flute.
First Known Flutists One assume that it was discovered in Slovenia by Archaelogists. The first ancient flute made from the bones of a cave bear dating back around 50,000 years ago.
