How to play: It's played by vibrating the lips against the mouthpiece & moving the u-shaped slide which functions with the valves. By moving the slide, the musician can play in several pitches.
Types: During the 19th century, trombones with valves that did or did not have slides developed. Trombones come in varying shapes and sizes, the most used today is the B-flat trombone.
First Known Trombones: One assumes that the trombone it had origin in the 15th century and evolved from the trumpet. It was called also the sackbut and it was used in instrumental music. During the 19th to 20th century, the trombone was used as an orchestral instrument. Nowadays the trombone is used in jazz music.
